FAQs

  • What is an indie author?

An indie author is an author who self-publishes their books! Though the resources on this site are geared toward indie authors, many authors can benefit from the majority of the resources here.

  • How do I know if a resource is right for me?

First, check out the landing page and look over the curriculum overview there. Then, if you still have questions, please feel free to email me. Just let me know which resource you have questions about and ask away!

  • Why do I need to learn more about ________(writing, editing, publishing, marketing, etc.)? Can't I just figure it out myself?

You can, but it may take you a while and cause a ton of pain. I created Indie Author Learning to help you cut through all the noise so that you can learn from my experience with the indie author life.

When you have a place to go to find clear, concise, and easy-to-follow steps to achieving the author life you desire, you can breathe much easier. So why wouldn't you?

  • Can I dig deeper into the resource content?

Of course! While every resource is a little bit different, each one ends with additional ways to continue your learning. In addition, several resources have the Discussion option enabled, where you can chat with other users as well as the instructor to continue your learning and dive even deeper into the material.

You can also follow Indie Author Learning on Instagram and Facebook to get tips and advice for your author life!

  • Can I make suggestions for future content?

Absolutely — I welcome it! I'm always trying to make Indie Author Learning the best it can be, and your suggestions are one of the best ways for me to know how! Just email me your suggestion here.

  • What is Indie Author Learning?

Indie Author Learning is an online learning site founded by fellow indie author and editor Melissa Frey that helps self-published (or not-yet-published) authors through the writing, editing, publishing, and marketing process with courses, printables, trainings, and masterclasses. It also includes resources on planning and administration as well as aspects of the indie author business.

And I'm always adding new content frequently based on things I hear that authors need! So if you have a suggestion for a resource you'd like to see in the future, just email me your idea, and I may just create a resource on that topic in the near future.

  • What is the mission and vision of Indie Author Learning?
